Dr. Alison Baxter is a licensed clinical psychologist in both New York State and New Jersey who has significant experience with both evaluations and expert testimony. Her background with the NYC Family Court gives her the expertise to conduct a variety of mental fitness evaluations and parenting related evaluations. During Dr. Baxter's time with the Family Court, she also completed evaluations for individuals involved with the Criminal and Civil Courts.
While with the NYC Family Court, she completed the Winter 2023 Forensic Custody Evaluator training, which provides significant insight into the dynamics of domestic violence in the custody/Family Court arena.
Dr. Baxter’s training and experience with civilly committed sex offenders positions her to provide a variety of evaluations of individuals who have been accused or convicted of such offenses, including related risk assessments.
As a clinical psychologist, she has training to identify and diagnose mental illness, and is qualified to speak expertly on common disorders, particularly personality disorders. Dr. Baxter is able to provide assessments of how mental illness and traumatic history contributed to an individual’s offense, which may provide mitigating factors for sentencing.
Dr. Baxter was recently credentialed with the New York 18b expert panel, working with attorneys representing indigent clients charged with criminal offenses in New York City.
Dr. Shari Lo-Rhoden is a dually licensed clinical psychologist in both New York State and New Jersey. Her lengthy experience assessing risks with regard to sex offending for both NYS and NJ has prepared her to speak expertly on relapse risks for those who have been convicted of a sex offense and risks involved in community management. She has experience with both juveniles and adults who have committed sexual offenses. Dr. Lo-Rhoden's knowledge and her significant experience in testimony position her to be a persuasive expert.
Dr. Lo-Rhoden can also conduct a variety of other risk assessments. Her experience of several years in the field of crisis assessment provides her with the knowledge necessary to provide insights into how a person's mental health history may lead them to be a risk to self or others. Mental health history can be an important element of a mitigation defense, and can help a jurist understand the mental health dynamics of a defendant's actions.
Dr. Lo-Rhoden has significant experience assessing mental health functioning in community-based individuals and inmates. Her evaluations of incarcerated individuals provide insight into the functioning and violence risk of the individual to the New Jersey State Parole Board.
